Ekistics' golf / community design sivision began work on two new golf communities this month, Aspotogan Ridge Golf Community in Hubbards and Ocean Links Golf Community in Tatamagouche.

Work on the Point Pleasant Park master plan has begun. The plan will be completed by Ekistics and Nip Paysage in the fall of 2007.

Ekistics selected for Sullivans Pond- Lake Banook Master Plan

Ekistics was selected by Halifax Regional Municipality to prepare a master plan for Lake Banook area of Dartmouth. The plan will consider the requirements and events for the 2009 World Canoe Championships.

Say hello to our new senior landscape architect - Sheri Edwards

We would like to welcome our newest senior landscape architect and planner, Sheri Edwards. Sheri has had 10 years experience in Landscape Architecture and planning working in both Canada and the UK. Her broad range of experience includes landscape and urban design, masterplanning, public consultation and exhibitions and research development. She is also experienced in landscape and visual impact assessment and the preparation of environmental statements.

Ekistics selected for Inglis Place Streetscape Revitalization

Ekistics was selected to prepare the detailed design plans for the Inglis place (Truro) Revitalization.

LANDincwas selected to prepare the master plan for a new national resort at Oukaimeden in Morocco. The site is nestled high up in the Atlas Mountains and will be home to a new ski and golf resort, a village of about 5,000 units and other resort facilities. The plan will be developed for the facility over the next 4-5 months.

Ekistics was selected to prepare a master plan for a community of 10,000 people in Dong Da, Lower Mongolia.

A warm welcome to our most recent staff additions. Jeff Bray is a senior designer and landscape architect with over 15 years experience. Chimin Wu is a planner and urban designer with over 10 years design and planning experience in China. Pierre Heelis is a policy oriented land planner and recent graduate of the Dalhousie MURP program.

Ekistics, in conjunction with PGM Design of Toronto and Space2Place of Vancouver, has just launched a new national land planning and design collaborative called LANDinc. The new alliance collective applies expertise in urban design, environmental planning, sustainable infrastructure, information graphics and landscape architecture to a wide range of private and public sector projects throughout Canada and internationally.

Ekistics announced co-winner of the Point Pleasant Park International Design Competition:
October, 2005

Ekistics and NIP Paysage were both announced the winners of the Point Pleasant Park International Design Competition in Halifax on October 3. The firms will work together with the community to prepare a master plan for the park in the coming months.

In late September 2003, a category 2 hurricane made landfall in Nova Scotia devastating Point Pleasant Park. The overwhelming majority of citizens made it clear they wanted to see the Park’s forest regenerated and its character restored. The destruction caused by the hurricane was also seen as an opportunity to renew the park to better meet the needs of the park users. In 2005, Halifax Regional Municipality initiated an international design competition for the creation of a new park master plan.

Among the 25 submissions from around the world, Ekistics Planning & Design has been selected as one of the five Stage 1 finalists for the Point Pleasant Park International Design Competition. The winning entry will be selected in September 2005.

Ekistics has been selected to prepare an urban design strategy for the Town of Truro, NS.

Ekistics was selected by HRM to prepare concepts and working drawings for the new Sackville Landing redevelopment on the Halifax waterfront.

After 4 years, the Ekistics website has been completely revamped to better represent some of the new company changes.

In April, Ed Versteeg joined the Ekistics team as a senior landscape architect and environmental planner. Originally from Halifax, Ed has overseen the construction of the Grand Concourse Greenway in St. John's Newfoundland over the last 7 years. Ed brings strong skills in project management, project design and landscape construction.

Working for the Armour Group and the Waterfront Development Corporation, Ekistics and Sasaki (of Boston) is just beginning the preliminary design of the new Queens Landing facility for the Halifax waterfront. This 8 acre lot at the 100% point of the waterfront is planned to be the new "Star Attraction" for the Province of NS. The urban entertainment complex will include a new Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Naval Heritage Centre, and mixed use facility.

Ekistics is currently designing a new city in Liuzhou, China for 200,000 people. The master plan considers existing landscape sensitivities, environmental considerations, future urban exansion, open space connections, riverfront access and regional transport issues. Construction on the new city starts in early 2005 and buildout is scheduled to be completed in the next decade.

After a year of planning, design and construction, Ekistics moved into their new 5,000 sq.ft. offices in November of 2004. The new office is located across from the proposed Canal Greenway park (preliminary design by Ekistics) at 1 Starr Lane. The new facility provides plenty of room for expansion in the coming years.
